How can I be sure if I need blepharoplasty?
Only a facial plastic surgeon can tell you for sure. Sometimes, what appears to be a sagging upper eyelid might be a sagging brow. In this case, an endoscopic brow lift will fix the problem.
How do I manage the recovery, and how long will it take?
It depends what was done during the operation. An operation where fatty tissue was taken out won’t heal as fast as one in which only a sliver of skin was removed. Younger patients heal quicker than older patients, and patients who bleed less during the procedures suffer less bruising. Stitches, if used, should be gone before the end of the first week. The bruising is the last thing to heal.
And some aspects of the recovery are under your control. Keeping your head elevated while resting will speed recovery time. Cold packs also help. Be sure to take any medication your surgeon prescribes in order to speed the healing process. Keep your eyes out of the sun.
