The patterns of lines that form on much of our face — especially our foreheads — are shaped by how we have most often used our facial muscles, the cumulative effect of decades of smiling and frowning. Many people want them unshaped. Brow lifts are a form of plastic surgery particularly suited to this. Modern medicine has studied the patterns of aging on the human face and learned how to reverse them. In addition to sagging down, skin also migrates a little to the center, so making the forehead look younger involves moving the skin to the sides as well as up.
By inserting an apparatus called an endoscope with a tiny light and tiny camera through an incision, a surgeon can look under your skin and study the attachment of skin and muscle. What sort of brow lift you will get depends on where the sagging is. A lateral is appropriate when the skin is sagging more around the temples than in the center. An asymmetric brow lift is when the skin is sagging more on one side than on another, and a full or a three-quarter brow lift are used when all parts of the forehead need to be lifted. After the surgery, you will need pain medication for one to two days. Swelling and bruising should be gone in no more than two weeks.
The best person to go to for a brow lift in Charlotte is Dr. Sean Freeman. He has been certified by two different surgery boards. Since 1988 he has done only facial plastic surgery and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. He was one of the first doctors in the United States to perform endoscopic surgery. Contact his office today.
BOTOX injections are the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure. 4.2 million BOTOX cosmetic injections were given last year. It is known as a lunchtime procedure, because the injection itself takes about ten minutes and you should be able to go about your day afterwards. Results should appear within one to two days and last three to six months. Patients may return for a follow-up injection after the first one has worn off. Many patients have found that the results seem to last up to several months longer after several treatments.
It isn’t meant for all wrinkles. Lines and wrinkles on the lower face, such as smile lines that appear around the nose and lip area, should be treated by injectable fillers such as RADIESSE, a natural calcium compound suspended in gel which can be injected into the face or hands and lasts up to two years. Two other fillers are Restylane and Perlane, which can be used to enhance the lips. Find a cosmetic surgeon who can consult with you and examine your face and hands to determine which one is right for you.

If your eyes look old but you can’t say exactly why, a SOOF lift blepharoplasty in Charlotte may work for you. A facial plastic surgeon learns to understand the precise changes of the aging process and find ways to reverse them. There is a little deposit of fat under our eyelids called the suborbicularis oculi fat, or SOOF, held in place by a kind of connective tissue called the fascial layer. As we age, the fascial layer relaxes and the SOOF sinks to the tops of our cheeks, creating a puffy appearance right under the eyes.
An open lower lid blepharoplasty means an incision under the eyelashes of the lower lid, lifting the skin and muscle and removing the fat. This gets rid of wrinkles, but it leaves the lower eyelid and tear trough looking hollow. A better approach is the SOOF life blepharoplasty. The surgeon makes an incision on the insider of the eyelid, puts the suborbicularis oculi fat back in position and retightens the fascial layer to hold it there. This subtle change in the structure of the face is much more effective at bringing back the original appearance of the eyes. A SOOF lift blepharoplasty makes the whole middle of the face look younger.
The doctor who developed the SOOF lift blepharoplasty is Dr. Sean Freeman, Charlotte’s best facial plastic surgeon. Since 1988 he has done only facial plastic surgery, including eyelid surgeries, and has often taught this procedure to other surgeons. If you are interested in this procedure, call his office today.
There are two ways aging can give your eyes an old and worn appearance, and two ways that a facial plastic surgeon can fix this.
In some cases, the problem ia above the eyelids. The skin on your forehead loses elasticity with age and gradually sags downward and a little to the center, forcing its way into the space of the upper eyelids. In these cases, an endoscopic brow lift will correct the problem. In other cases, an upper eyelid blepharoplasty is called for. This is the procedure that is generally called an eye lift. The surgeon makes an incision along the fold of the upper eyelid and removes excess skin, fat and muscle. This is done under general anesthesia. Ask your doctor about any post operative concerns you may have during your initial consultation.
An eye lift sometimes comes with lower lid surgery, a brow lift, laser skin resurfacing, BOTOX or other cosmetic treatment. If is being done for medical reasons, it may be covered by Medicare. There are some medical problems, such as blurry vision, dry eye, double vision, diabetes or thyroid problems, which make an eye lift a bad idea, so be sure to talk with your doctor.
